What is pão de queijo?

Pão de queijo, which translates literally as “Brazilian cheese bread” , is a traditional Brazilian savoury snack made with tapioca flour, cheese and a touch of magic (okay, maybe just our secret family recipe). It originated over 400 years ago and has been part of our culture ever since.

Today, Brazilians enjoy pão de queijo for breakfast or a satisfying snack. No family gathering, party, special event or casual get-together is complete without it.

Is Cheesebuddy made in Australia?

Since day one, we have been baking with pride in Western Australia. Our state-of-the-art facility is HACCP certified, ensuring the production line meets the highest Australian food safety standards.

We might be Brazilian at heart, but we’ve been Aussies for over 15 years. For our customers, that means every bite of Cheesebuddy is packed with quality, authenticity and history – and cheese.

Does Cheesebuddy Brazilian cheese bread contain allergens?

Following traditional pão de queijo recipes, our products contain eggs, milk and cheese. Because we bake with tapioca starch, they are naturally gluten-free and Coeliac Australia approved. They are also free from any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

We do our best to steer clear of allergens when developing new recipes because we want everyone to enjoy Brazilian cheese bread together. Still, we recommend checking the specific ingredients to ensure your favourite new snack loves you back.

How do I eat Brazilian cheese bread?

The beauty of pão de queijo is its versatility. You can use Brazilian cheese bread in home cooking, party catering, café service and commercial cooking.

It’s great by itself as a healthy snack, dipped/dunked/baked/grilled with a zesty sauce (even sweet spreads), or as a non-gluten carb replacement in your favourite meal.

Head to our Recipes section for inspiration.

Did you know: Most Brazilians have pão de queijo in their freezer at all times in case a hungry crowd drops by.

Where can I buy Brazilian cheese bread?

You can find Cheesebuddy in the freezer section of your local supermarket, including Coles, Woolworths, IGA, Costco and more. We’re also constantly expanding, so check our website for the latest stockists.

We offer two convenient sizes: 450g and 1.5kg. We recommend getting the big bag – Brazilian cheese bread disappears quickly!

Can I order Cheesebuddy online?

We have plans to open an online store in the future. Right now, we don’t sell online because we’re busy keeping up with supermarket orders.

Keep an eye on our website and social media to be first in line when our store goes live.

Do I need to cook Cheesebuddy?

Our Brazilian cheese bread comes frozen ready to bake.

You just pop them in the oven for 35 minutes. Watch them grow into puffy, crispy, cheesy delights while you do what you need to do – cook, shower, work out or take a well-earned nap.

Are Cheesebuddy products healthy?

Cheesebuddy products are naturally gluten-free and contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They’re also a great source of protein and complex carbohydrates, thanks to the tapioca flour which keeps you full for longer.

In short? We think they’re healthy for the body and the soul.

You can see the full ingredient list and dietary information on our Products page.

Are Cheesebuddy products made with real cheese?

Yes, we take pride in using only real cheese and traditional ingredients in our cheese breads. Cheesebuddy Brazilian cheese bread contains at least 70% Australian ingredients, including cheese, milk, canola oil and tapioca flour.

Our products are free from artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives, ensuring a wholesome and authentic taste.

Who owns Cheesebuddy?

Cheesebuddy is a small family business based in Perth, Western Australia. We’re a husband-and-wife team who emigrated from Brazil to Perth in 2009, bringing our authentic recipes and love for healthy food with us.

Nothing gives us more joy than sharing Brazilian pão de queijo with our adopted home, Australia. Obrigado for being part of our journey.
